When it comes to completing our year-end homeschool assessments, choosing the right portfolio reviewer is everything. A certified reviewer helps ensure we are meeting our state requirements while keeping our educational choices private and secure.

But it’s always smart to protect your family and do a quick double-check. Anyone can say they are certified, but as homeschooling parents, we have the right and the tools to verify it ourselves. First, check the suggested reviewers in the homeschool reviewer list available here.

Reviewer List

The West Virginia Department of Education has a public lookup tool where you can instantly verify a teacher's certification status. It takes less than two minutes and gives you complete peace of mind.

How to verify your reviewer in WV:

Ask for their full legal name: Make sure you have the correct spelling of their first and last name as it appears on their teaching license.

Go to the official WV Certification Status page: Open the search tool at

wveis.k12.wv.us/certcheck

Run the search: Hit "Public Search", enter their name into the search fields to pull up their current standing, active credentials, and license expiration dates.
